Hornsey Club Update

At our last AGM we were interested to hear from Jim Chapman, chair of the Hornsey Club, about the Club’s future plans, and in particular the plans for new padel courts to replace the ‘pop-up’ courts that disappeared last summer. Planning permission for four padel courts was granted last June (although this was during the era of the previous operator and was for a slightly different position on the tennis courts).

Padel Court Development

The Club has now started preparatory work for the padel courts by digging two deep holes on the site of the disused tennis court, in order to establish the underlying ground conditions. You may have heard through other channels that a dog belonging to a resident unfortunately fell into one of these holes and had to be rescued by the fire brigade. The holes have now been fenced off with barriers. We presume that construction work will be taking place in the near future, and we trust that the Club will take the necessary steps to ensure the works will be securely fenced off and adequately signed.

No Public Access

As a result of this incident we have been in correspondence with the Club. The Club has asked us to emphasise that the club grounds are private and not publicly accessible without permission, so residents should refrain from using the grounds for exercising or dog walking. This is particularly important during winter months when the cricket playing surfaces can be easily damaged. The one exception is that residents whose gardens back onto the club do have a long-standing right to pass through the club grounds to exit/enter via Tivoli Rd.

We will keep you informed of developments as and when we hear further news from the Hornsey Club.
