Vehicle Crime
You may be aware that several residents have recently had the rear windows of their vehicles smashed and the rear parcel shelf stolen. There was yet another incident last night at the top of Glasslyn Rd. There seems to be a wave of this particular type of theft at present across Crouch End, affecting certain makes of car. The best advice is to remove the parcel shelf when you are not using your car. The police are aware but it is difficult to catch thieves in the act.
As mentioned previously, we encourage residents to sign up to Met Engage, a new police initiative which keeps you informed about police matters. You may have been visited by our local police team going door-to-door recently to promote this. The website is here>>.. Note also that the local police team will be available on the Town Hall square on Saturday 13th December from 3pm to meet Crouch Enders and listen to residents’ concerns.
Shepherds Cot update
Next, an update on the latest developments on Shepherds Cot, as several residents are members of clubs there. The Shepherds Cot Trust is seeking to improve safety on the site by reducing car movements and improving lighting. Plans have not been finalised, but the general intent is to improve and rationalise the parking area by the bungalow near the Park Road entrance and to prohibit vehicles from going beyond this point (except for deliveries and blue badges). This would however mean that the Hanley car park becomes inaccessible, which members of the Hanley Club are protesting against, so SCT is considering the implications of this and a compromise may be needed. We will let you know when we hear more. There are also plans to improve the lighting of the footways, although no decisions have yet been made on the best way to do this.
Annual Christmas Drinks
Finally, a reminder that residents are invited to come to the Maynard Arms (back section) on Tuesday 2nd December from 7.45pm onwards for Christmas drinks. It’s a good opportunity to meet neighbours and to welcome newcomers to our streets. Many thanks again to Sasha Mann for organising this.
