March updates on street trees, parking matters, school street plans and changes to the GMTRA committee.
New street tree
I am pleased to report that we have a new street tree at the top of Glasslyn Road. This is a replacement for the tree that was destroyed by UK Power Networks when the road was closed for electrical works back in 2023. Thank you to Zander Calderwood for relentlessly pursuing the Council about this. The new tree is a sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon), which should look spectacular in the Autumn.
Parking permit update
We have now heard from the Council that the new parking permit regime will start officially from 1st April, but in practice be introduced in three phases. Phase 1 (April) includes the surcharges for additional permits. Phase 2 (May) will introduce the fees for using the electric charging points, and Phase 3 (May/June) the surcharging according to vehicle length. See here>> for full details.
Montenotte school street
The proposal to create a ‘school street’ at the bottom end of Montenotte Road is coming back to life. We will circulate further details as soon as we get them, and I am expecting there will be a public consultation in April. As mentioned before, the school street would operate from 8.00 to 8.45 and from 14.30 to 15.15, Monday to Friday.
Committee change
Andy Wiley is stepping down from the committee as he & family are moving from Montenotte Rd. Thanks to Andy for his contribution to GMTRA. That means of course that we are keen to hear from anybody who would like to join our committee (particularly from Montenotte Rd!) – do get in touch with anyone on the committee or via our email address contact@gmtra.org.uk.
