More Trees For Crouch End

A new campaign, has just launched, to plant more street trees in Crouch End. The project has been initiated by our local Councillor Luke Cawley-Harrison and is co-sponsored by the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, Crouch End Traders Association and Crouch End Festival.

Campaign Aim

The aim is to plant at least 25 new street trees along the main roads that form our town centre: The Broadway, Crouch Hill, Crouch End Hill, Park Road, Middle Lane and Topsfield/Broadway Parade. The project is being supported by Haringey Council, who have surveyed the area and identified over 50 possible locations in the town centre for new trees (you may have noticed the green squares marked on the pavement), and also has the support of the national charity Trees for Streets.

Cost Of Street Trees

The full cost of a street tree is approximately £900. Haringey Council will contribute around 65% of the total cost to cover excavations, stakes and ties, surveying etc. The intention is to raise the balance (£310 per tree) from Crouch End residents through a crowdfunding campaign. A similar campaign took place in Muswell Hill last year, which now has over 20 new trees planted.

The actual locations and tree species will be chosen carefully, with an even spread of trees across the town centre, whilst having to avoid obstacles such as underground cables and traffic signage. The trees will be slender, upright and medium-sized, for example Flowering Cherry and Ginkgo Biloba.

Make A Contribution

If you would like to make a personal contribution to this project the crowdfunder page is here>>  which will be open until 28 September.  Your GMTRA committee is also considering supporting this campaign with a modest donation.
