Two Padel courts were erected on the tennis courts site in June this year. Following complaints by local residents the Club applied for and was recently given retrospective temporary planning permission for four such courts. This was valid until 31 October this year, although the courts have remained active during November and December despite the permission lapsing.
Further Planning Application
The Club has now submitted another planning application for permanent permission for four Padel Courts, to include floodlights. The main issues that concern nearby residents are the lighting, noise, and traffic. The floodlights will be in use from 4pm to 8pm during winter months, creating considerably more light pollution than now.
Padel is noisier than tennis, since hard bats are used and the Perspex walls of the courts reverberate when hit. Padel courts are smaller than tennis courts. and when all four are fully occupied will contain 16 players. On the transport front we have already had an instance of bin collections being impeded by abandoned Lime bikes by the car park entrance.
GMTRA Response
