Parking Permit Consultation GMTRA Response

A reminder that the Council consultation on proposed changes to parking permits closes this coming Wednesday 20th November.

GMTRA Response

Thank you to those who have expressed their views to us. GMTRA has responded to the consultation, in summary making the following points:

  • The limit of 40 visitor permits per year is arbitrary and unreasonable.
  • Charging to use EV points will discourage people from moving to electric vehicles.
  • Charging additional fees for cars over 4 metres is an unnecessary complication, particularly when the proposed increase in the basic permit fee is 15% anyway. Note that many moderately sized cars (eg VW Polo) are just over 4 metres in length.
  • Penalising incorrect applications is unreasonable; it is easy to make an unintentional mistake.

To some extent we are fortunate that our CPZ is for two hours only. In parts of the Borough where the CPZ is all-day long, a proposal to abolish day-long visitor permits is causing great anxiety. We wait to see whether the Council will respond to the concerns expressed by us and by others.
